Doha, Qatar, is set to make history as it hosts the FIBA West Asia Super League Final 8 for the first time in the 2023-2024 season. Scheduled from May 25 to June 1, 2024, this pinnacle event marks a significant milestone in Qatar's basketball journey. The inaugural edition was previously held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Mohammed Saad Almeghaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), expressed excitement about showcasing Qatar's basketball prowess and laying the groundwork for future endeavors. He emphasized the event's role in preparing for Qatar's bid to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027.

Hagop Khajirian, Executive Director of FIBA Regional Office - Asia, commended Qatar's growth in basketball and Doha's commitment to excellence as a host city. He highlighted Qatar's dedication to fostering basketball development, aligning with FIBA's strategic priorities for 2023-2027.

Saadoun Al Kuwari, QBF Secretary General, emphasized Doha's rich basketball history and its ongoing efforts to elevate the sport in the region. He noted Qatar's successful hosting of recent FIBA U16 Asia Cups and the FIBA Asia Cup in 2005.

The Final 8 comprises six teams from FIBA WASL Sub-Zone Leagues, including Kuwait Club, Manama, Kazma, Al Riyadi, Shahrdary Gorgan, and Sagesse Sports Club, alongside BC Astana and Tamil Nadu. The teams will compete in group stages, with the top two from each group advancing to the Semi-Finals.

The finalists will secure a spot in the inaugural Basketball Champions League Asia (BCL Asia), scheduled from June 9-15, 2024, in Dubai, UAE. Qatar's hosting of the FIBA West Asia Super League Final 8 underscores its growing prominence in basketball and its commitment to fostering the sport's development in the region.
